Match Intro
Height can be a major weapon in Beach Wrestling, but only if it turns into real control. In Group A of DojoLink’s 8-man Beach Wrestling tournament in Breukelen, the Netherlands, Tieme and Tijs step into the sand circle with a clear physical contrast from the opening exchange.
Tieme enters in green shorts with the much taller frame, giving him potential advantages in distance management, upper-body control, and grip positioning. Tijs enters in blue shorts with a different challenge: close the distance, disrupt the balance, and keep the match from becoming a long-range control battle.
Breakdown
The central problem in this match is distance. Tieme’s height can help him manage space, frame off, and make Tijs work hard to get inside. If Tieme can control the first contact, he may be able to slow the pace and guide the exchange into positions where his reach becomes useful.
Tijs has to approach the match differently. Against a taller opponent, waiting at range can become dangerous. He needs sharp entries, active movement, and the ability to force body-lock exchanges or scrambles where Tieme’s height becomes harder to use.
The sand makes that battle even more complicated. A clean entry can lose power if the feet slide. A strong top position can disappear if the base is unstable. A fighter who looks close to scoring still has to survive the scramble long enough to secure the full 3-second pin.
That is what makes this Group A matchup interesting. Tieme may have the frame to control distance, but Tijs can make the match chaotic if he closes space quickly and refuses to settle underneath. In Beach Wrestling, balance after contact often matters more than the first grip.
Tieme vs. Tijs is a tactical sand-wrestling test built around range, pressure, and control after the takedown. One fighter wants to use height and leverage. The other has to break through that range, create instability, and turn the scramble into a scoring opportunity.
